The Men With Pipes Project

The free access Design & Art Australia Online (DAAO) website has become the most comprehensive and reliable website on Australian art. The DAAO includes biographical information on over 10,000 artists from the time of European settlement to the present day and is continuing to expand its coverage. Since its launch in 2007 I have been a contributor to the DAAO and have published over fifty biographies. In 2009 I was appointed the first Writer-In-Residence for the DAAO funded by the Power Institute at the University of Sydney. Focusing mainly on male artists of the first half of the 20th century my contributions include over 30 Peer Reviewed articles on lesser-known artists such as Will Ashton, M J MacNally and Ray Lindsay.  I continue to carry out research for the DAAO, and my work has informally become known as the Men With Pipes Project even though some of studies are on female artists (they smoke too).
